Lakeview Real Estate
> Lakeview Real Estate SearchHistory
Lakeview is reported to have gotten it's name from "Hotel Lake View" which was built on the lake shore in 1853 by James H. Rees and E. E. Hundley. As the story goes, the owners were standing on the hotel's portico trying to decide upon the right name when Walter L. Newberry proposed a name based on the fabulous "lake-view."
In 1887 the town of Lake View was incorporated into the city and in 1889 it would be annexed to Chicago's real estate boom. Most the residences of Lakeview were constructed during this time, when it used to be the summer getaway for the Chicago people. New shopping at Clark Street and Diversey emerged to supply the ever increasing populations, beginning what is now the Lakeview East business district on Broadway and Clark Streets.
Today
Today Lakeview is one of Chicago's most diverse neighborhoods. You can find anything from the classic Chicago style hotdog to some of Chicago's finest dining experiences. Lakeview can be divided into East and West Lakeview. Those water and beach lovers naturally gravitate to this area for it's close proximity. Halsted street is host to Chicago's gay community and the annual Pride Parade. Of course one of Lakeview's major attractions is the historic Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs. To support the "Wrigley Effect" there are no shortage of bars in the area. Parking in this area can be challenging, and next to impossible on Cubs game days.
The demographic seems to be made up in large part of the 20 somethings fresh out of college, to the early 30 young urban professionals. Supporting this demographic is a myriad of shopping possibilities and an endless supply restaraunts to decide from.
Lakeview is one of Chicago's most diversified neighborhoods. Since it became the part of Chicago, Lakeview has gone through many changes. Today the homes and apartments of Lakeview are among the most sought after real estate properties in the Chicago neighborhood. This upscale real estate market is now full of bungalows, high-rises, and modern condominium buildings. Wrigleyville, which houses the famous Wrigley Field, home to the Chicago Cubs, is the most famous location within Lakeview. There are innumerable homes, sports bars, restaurants, theaters, and souvenir shops that are overcrowded during the Chicago Cubs match days.
