Location
Wicker Park is located Northwest of Chicago's downtown Loop adjacent to Bucktown. Roughly bounded from Division to North Ave. and West from Ashland Ave. to Western Ave.
History
This area is named after the Charles and Joel Wicker who in 1870 donated what is known today as Wicker Park to the city. While much of Chicago had been built in a grid like fashion, Wicker Park real estate in that era departed from this trend with very large lots supporting mansions for the beer brewers of the time. Today Pierce and Honey streets represent some of the greatest examples of Victorian style homes Chicago has to offer. Like many other parts of chicago,
Wicker Park was forged from an immigrant community in the 1800's.
Part of West Town,
Wicker Park is anchored at the corners of North Ave, Milwaukee, and Damen where historic flat iron buildings hint at its past. Wicker Park still retains much of the old world
feel in its beautiful churches and architecture. Adding to this historic feel are the occasional remnants of
cobblestone roads and rail car tracks.
Demographics
While the community started as blue collar, as of late it has become a haven for artists and a younger crowd
seeking sanctuary from other commercialized areas of the city. It's close proximity to Bucktown give it a very similar feel. Artists studios and small theatres lend to the artistic feel of the area. Coffee houses are plentiful as well catering to the contemporary crowd.

Transportation
Transportation in and out of the loop is facilitated via the CTA (Ashland/Division) Blue Line. For those who travel for a living, the Blue line also provides a convenient and cost effective means for getting to O'hare International Airport. By car the area is easily accessible from Division. Once you get there however parking can be challenging in this area if you don't have a deeded parking space or garage. There is metered parking on the major streets and side streets are zoned. Bus routes run through major streets like Milwaukee (56), Ashland (9), and Division
(70).
Wicker Park - Parks/Events
Lending to the "artistic" feel of the area is the annual Around the Coyote Arts Festival held in the fall. Each year, actors, painters, sculptors, photographers, performers, dancers, poets, and filmmakers participate in the festival to exhibit their most recent works. Studios and local businesses are morphed into galleries while open store fronts teem with artists and viewers. It isn't unusual to find your local coffee house with the works of a local artist proudly displayed.

With a fabulous cuisine and an upstairs bar that stays open past the restaurant, this is a one stop evening event. Still in the mood for fish, but you want it cooked? Check out Spring voted best new restaurant in 2002. If you're looking for something a bit more "comfortable" just to grab a beer, check out the Bucktown Pub for a no frills vintage feel pub. Other recent additions include the seemingly ever expanding Pot Belly's. For live music in a quaint environment you can't go wrong with one of Chicago's classic venues, the Double Door.
